HAIR LOSS

Causes of hair Loss:-

Male hormone testosterone is considered to be one of the Major hair loss causes. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) miniaturizes the hair root and follicle and the new hair growing through it will be finer. When the new fine hair is later shed dihydrotestosterone again miniaturizes the follicle and hair root and so on until baldness occurs .Thus , male hormones, precisely, testosterone, are Sponsoring Baldness.

 TYPES OF HAIR LOSS -

  • Male pattern baldness

  • Androgenic alopecia, or male-pattern baldness (MBP) accounts for 95 % of all hair loss and starts when an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase in a hair follicle combines with testosterone.

Reasons of hair fall among Men:

If hair loss is influenced by natural hormones, you may be wondering why some people are more inclined toward male pattern baldness than others. Both men and women produce androgens, and the hormone testosterone is actually a precursor to the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Testosterone is converted to DHT by an enzyme known as alpha-5 reductase, in the hair follicles, adrenal glands, and the male prostate and testes. In addition to the prostate and testes’ role in increasing DHT levels, men also have a greater number of androgen receptors in their dermal papillae than women.

These factors combine to make this form of hair loss more common and more severe among men. The reason the amount of hair loss is not equal among men is because those with the genetic predisposition for male pattern baldness have a greater number of androgen receptors for DHT to contact.

  • Female pattern baldness

In females general hair fall starts during later age. It is just a common condition when hair start scattering over the crown area and front of the scalp, while its effect keeps increasing. Just as in men it’s popular as female androgenic alopecia or female pattern baldness. While curing female androgenic physician should be well aware of the adverse affects on life can be more stressful and do not necessarily correlate with the objective degree of hair loss.

Reasons of hair fall among women :

Genetic- History of hair loss in the family is very often the cause of hair fall in women and in men also. Such hair loss is usually female pattern baldness. Every individual loses hair everyday but the problem arises when it does not grow back. Female pattern baldness is generally more accentuated at the crown or top of the head.

Hormonal- Some hormonal changes lead to hair loss in women. These changes can occur during pregnancy, birth control, problems of thyroid and menopause. In case of some temporary hormonal changes such as pregnancy, start of hormonal contraception or thyroid problems, the hair grows back as soon the hormonal processes return to normalcy. As women produce less of oestrogen during menopause, and more of hormones such as testosterone, hair loss can naturally result.

Diet deficiencies- Women can lose hair when they lose weight rapidly due to deficiency in diet. The diets which are low in protein and iron make hair thin. If lack of proper nutrient intake is the cause of hair loss, it can be reverted by improving the diet and replenishing those nutrients.

Fungal scalp infection- Some forms of fungi can infect the scalp, making hair break off at the scalp. This can be treated with oral medication

Over treating your hair- Braiding your hair tightly, using curling irons or hot rollers, or coloring your hair can make hair brittle and more likely to fall out.
